We are proud to announce that on 6th November, 2019 Captain Ian S. Chapman, Senior Marine Surveyor at CSL Global Ltd, was successfully awarded the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service during an award ceremony in the presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal at Trinity House, London for his services to the careers of young seafarers and a maritime charity.
The medal is awarded annually to a maximum of 20 people and is limited to those who have served in the Merchant Navy or Fishing Fleets of the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands and who have shown devotion to duty and exemplary service which has been of particular value and has constituted an outstanding example to others.
It is a fantastic achievement of Ian to be recognised for his merits. He is a highly experienced Master Mariner with 23 years working at sea on various vessels worldwide, including in the Towing Industry and Anchor handling.
Ian has been working as marine surveyor at CSL since 2016 and travels all over Europe for project surveys, liability claims, P&I condition surveys and Hull & Machinery claims surveys. In his spare time Ian is also a Trustee for restoring the historic Steam Tug Brent (Ex PLA) at Maldon Waterfront, Essex, where he also helps lead volunteers and shares his marine background.
